Although Paragon is her debut album, Floor Jansen is far from an unknown. Since 2013, she has been the vocalist of the Finnish symphonic metal band
Nightwish, counted among Europe's leading metal bands. The idea for Paragon came about when Jansen took part in the program Beste Zangers, through which she reached a large Dutch audience. Not entirely coincidentally, then, Paragon is a lot more accessible
… than her work with Nightwish, and it is certainly not a pure sympho-metal record. Although: her powerful voice and the symphonic string arrangements betray that she is just as happy singing over a gang of pounding guitars. If one thing becomes clear on this record, it is that Jansen is among the best singers in the Netherlands, regardless of the number of decibels. (JV)more
