Jon Anderson (b. 1944) is approaching 80, but still feels the need to release albums. The Brit became known primarily as singer and co-founder of the progressive rock group
Yes, with whom he performed off and on until 2004. He has also released material solo and with breakaway bands from Yes over the past few decades. True recorded with his current backing band, The Band Geeks. To begin with the
… most positive thing about the record: it is admirable that Anderson at his age can still sing in the high registers already heard on the old Yes records. It is often incorrectly stated that he sings with his head voice, but he reaches the high notes with his regular voice. Still so. There is less positive to say about the material on the record. Although Anderson, Yes and other progressive rock groups became known for a drive for innovation, little of that remains. At his age, he is forgiven, but the songs and production contain only elements that have become cliché. Thus the music is best described by the paradoxical term 'conservative prog rock. (JV)more
