The seventh solo album by Noah Lennox aka Panda Bear and following on the co-created
Sonic Boom with
Reset (2022). For Sinister Grift, he was joined by his bandmates from
Animal Collective. Still, Sinister Grift is primarily a Panda Bear album, with typically swaggering melodies that stretch into the psychedelic. What is different, however, is that Lennox barely allows his voice to echo anymore, so
… his lyrics come right to the point. About halfway through the album, the tempo slows down a bit further and the melancholic undertones become more emphatic. While anything happens in the background in terms of production, Lennox muses on his love woes. Sinister Grift is his most personal album to date, without losing its typically hypnotic undertone.
