The music of British Pigs (7x) is unmistakably rooted in sludge and stoner rock. Sitting somewhere between
White Zombie and the inevitable
Black Sabbath, their fifth album Death Hilarious is also dominated by the fat and syrupy slow guitar riffs, which sound no different from their previous four albums. The secret of Pigs (7x) may be that they manage to tie this in with a certain punk spirit, rather
… than the weed and slacker mists with which stoner rock is normally shrouded. Vocalist Matthew Baty has a mean and energetic roar, with which he effortlessly holds his own against the searing guitar violence of the two guitarists. Death Hilarious somewhat lacks the broadening that the band seemed to seek on strong predecessor Land Of Sleeper (2023), with more hard/soft dynamics and ominous drones. Death Hilarious rocks more, relentlessly straight ahead. (MR)more
