With his third album, Nat Ćmiel aka Yeule continues the development of the rock-oriented sound of
Softscars (2023). This time, Cmiel was inspired by Polish artist Zdzisław Beksiński, whose work paints dystopian scenes. Destruction, alienation, dissociation and (finding or losing) identity are major themes that appear on the album. The glitchy hyper-pop elements fit perfectly with this and are
… complemented by influences from trip-hop, EDM and alt-pop. Yeule worked with producers A.G. Cook, Mura Masa, Clams Casino and Chris Greatti, who add a raw edge to the production. Still, this is Yeule's least whimsical album to date. Indeed, the explosiveness has been pushed back a bit further and serves the narrative nature of it all. For example, the album begins quietly and only builds to a climax toward the end, rather than within each song. Evangelic Girl is a Gun sounds more unified than previous work, but still excites and chafes at the right moments. (YvQ)more
