With their second album
Supernova (2022), British duo Nova Twins could count on a boost in their popularity. This follow-up Parasites & Butterflies came about after an intense touring period where Amy Love (vocals and guitar) and Georgia South (bass guitar) wanted to capture the live energy in their songs. Therefore, the songs were mostly written quickly. With the title, the duo refers to the concept
… whereby a bridge is built between chaos and beauty. Compared to their first two albums, the sound on this album is a little more polished. Although the music is still quite abrasive, the songs on this album become bigger. Among other things, metalcore, grunge, industrial, jungle and drum 'n' bass are intertwined in songs that take on uplifting forms. Despite those fiery overtones, there is also room for vulnerability. Themes touched upon on the album include mental health, female strength and self-reflection. Nova Twins build out their rawness in a different way this time, namely by pairing it with emotional layering, and that gives their music a new dimension. (JvQ)more
