A CD by someone with the unusual and unknown name Anthony Thistlethwaite does not immediately attract people's ears. But if you find out after studying the cover information that he played saxophone with The Waterboys and that people like Mick Taylor, Sonny Landreth (ex-John Hiatt), Snowy White and Karl Wallinger (World Party and also ex-Waterboys) are playing aroused attention. The album was recorded
… in St. Petersburg, Russia (with Russian musicians) and Lafayette, Louisiana and is Thistlethwaite's third solo album, whose voice is very similar to that of Al Stewart and Tom Petty. "Crawfish & caviar" shows a striking mix of rock, zydeco and Celtic music. Especially the songs that were recorded in America (eg "Down in New Orleans", "Sunrays" and "Come here to me now" ) make this fine CD a pleasant surprise. (W.vd.Z.) _more
