The four-piece band Creed consists of school friends Scott Stapp (vocals) and Mark Tremonti (guitar), Brian Marshall (bass) and Scott Philips (drums) from Tallahassee Florida. Their debut album My Own Prison was self-recorded for six thousand dollars. Thanks to airplay on local radio stations, the record got noticed. Ron Saint-Germain (Soundgarden, among others) provided the songs with a new mix
… and the record is now re-released on Epic. The post-grunge of Creed is by no means unique and innovative. The guitars sound fat and Mark Tremonti's dramatic vocals don't make you happy. Yet the CD in Torn, Sister, What's This Life For and the title track My Own Prison, which was released as a single, has a number of positive highlights. (CK)more
