With the exception of Sunsets On Empire, released in 1997, Fish has not released a decent new album since his departure from Marillion in 1988. With Raindogs With Zippos he seems to have settled with the past in which he often reverted to old Marillion material. On this unexpectedly strong record we hear an inspired Fish at work. The most intriguing song on this CD is the six-part Plague Of Ghost,
… where the singer drew inspiration from the poetic lyrics from the film Apocalypse Now. All kinds of things such as jungle, nature and animal sounds are reflected in this song. Mission Statement is inspired by the movie Jerry McGuire, while Tilted Cross is about the landmines that lie in Bosnia. The most beautiful songs are the acoustic songs in which the duet Incomplete with the unknown singer Elisabeth Antwi stands out. (CK)more
