The virtuosity that the gentlemen of Toto show on this DVD is at times breathtaking. The tour, which was undertaken after the studio album Falling In Between, showed a band in top form. It was not unimportant that both the singer and the guitarist from the first hour - resp. Bobby Kimball and Steve Lukather - were there, so well-known hits like Pamela, Africa and Rosanna were indistinguishable from
… the record versions. Newcomers like bassist Leland Sklar (replacement for the sick Mike Porcaro, known from Phil Collins) and keyboardist Greg Phillinganes (including Michael Jackson, Eric Clapton) have exactly those qualities that many musicians appreciate in Toto: virtuosity without getting bogged down in freak. In addition, all musicians also sing along in the pure, polyphonic choirs. The fact that the band plays these extremely complex arrangements so carelessly does not benefit the rock and roll quality of the concert. Rarely see a rock band sweat so little. (MS)more
