Blues guitarist Stevie Ray Vaughan was the right man in the eighties to revive the somewhat dozed blues rock genre. With his flashy funky style he was initially heavily indebted to Jimi Hendrix but soon became a reference point himself. He was killed in a helicopter accident in 1990, before he could become a real star. Pride & Joy was released on video shortly after his death, and contained the
… video clips he made during his hit album Couldn't Stand The Weather (1989), supplemented with the live track I'm Leaving You. It is now being re-released, plus three songs from MTV Unplugged, some TV commercials and material shot to promote the Family Style album he made with his brother Jimmy just before his death. The clips now look a bit dated but give a nice impression of the time. It is striking how naturally the blues legend found a place in the somewhat superficial world of MTV. (MS)more
