When Brian Wilson wrote In My Room in 1963 - his lonely ode to the security of his bedroom - he could not have imagined that he would indeed hardly be among the people for the next few decades. That the crazy pop genius would go on tour again was unthinkable to his fans. Yet it happened at the beginning of the new millennium, and this DVD shows some atmospheric and concert images of that miracle.
After previously released DVDs about the Pet Sounds and Smile tours, the DVD is mustard after the meal, also because the offerings do not excel in image and sound quality. The best part are the interviews with admirers like Neil Young, Pete Townsend, Sheryl Crow and Patti Smith. Also beautiful is Paul McCartney's speech, in honor of Wilson's entry into the Songwriter's Hall Of Fame. The main character in turn is overwhelmed by an unexpected backstage visit from Ronnie Spector, the interpreter of Wilson's all-time favorite song, Be My Baby by The Ronettes. (MS)more
