Since their stormy rise in the mid-noughties, the Arctic Monkeys have been widely regarded as the best British guitar band of their generation. The singles enter the charts high and the albums are (also in the Netherlands) sold very well. On stage they do not afford any frivolity, but despite their stoic appearance they manage to turn every venue upside down. A recording of such a performance has
… now been recorded on this beautifully designed DVD. The band plays ruthlessly tight and singer Alex Turner spits his lyrics brightly into the microphone. But a spectacular live show? Well no. We see four down-and-out British lads in jeans and faded shirts doing their thing. Although their spiky guitar rock is well put together, the reason for their enormous success remains a mystery after seeing this DVD. (MS)more
