Nice trend in the noughties: bands that perform their best albums in full on stage. After Brian Wilson (Smile), Van Morrison (Astral Weeks) and Lou Reed (Berlin), the remaining members of the British beat band The Zombies also ventured into their 1967 magnum opus Odessey & Oracle. At the time, it threatened to flop due to lack of promotion. , until it was discovered by Al Kooper (front man of
… Blood Sweat & Tears and temporary A&R manager for Columbia) and released in America with a lot of publicity. When the single Time Of The Season became a huge worldwide hit, the band had already disintegrated. The album is known to this day as an undisputed pinnacle of British psychedelic pop. The same Kooper took care of the introduction of this concert in honor of the 40th anniversary of the record. An exciting concert followed by a group of well-preserved British gentlemen who still cannot be found with any star allure. (MS)more
