Anyone who has ever attended a Placebo concert knows that the band has an overwhelming show in it. The DVD We Come In Pieces is the British's second appearance on a disc. With an extra guitarist and keyboardist, the power trio, armed to the teeth, takes to the stage of the London Brixton Academy. With a great display of power, the group, assisted by popping speakers and a flashy light show, creates
… a bond with the thousands of attendees. Even the back rows of this old music hall are reached with ease. During this performance, unfortunately, it remains mainly pure power. Normally the band has an equally impressive artistic side in addition to the great sound. Especially the singer Brian Molko is recognizable out of thousands. His sharp voice penetrates to the bone and his androgynous face completes the indelible impression. Of course Molko's flair is present, but it just won't splash off the screen. For a show that had to end Placebo's Battle For The Sun tour, the whole thing is a bit tame. For the music, Placebo gets a big plus, although given the reputation of the band it would have been better in terms of performance. (JE)more
