While she kept her audience waiting in vain, singer and songwriter Amy Winehouse went to death; her unexpected stardom, a wrong boyfriend and a lot of drugs and booze. In her twilight years, the British soul singer did not show up more often than she did and in the Netherlands alone, she was absent from Pinkpop and North Sea Jazz. But if this DVD / CD box shows anything, it is that she did not
… perform an act (like followers such as Adele and Duffy) but was a natural with a voice that came deep from her soul and with which she, especially on her second CD Back To Black gave shape to her insecurities and grief. On one of the three DVDs in this package, she is visibly drunk during a concert and almost devastates that repertoire, leading to a heartbreakingly beautiful version of the song Back To Black. Fortunately, we see the singer looking like a dilapidated street daisy in her early days (in recordings from Later, among others) as a fresh and plump girl. A special feature is an Arena documentary in which she talks extensively about her background and influences, recorded shortly before she broke through internationally and steadily descended into the abyss, leading to her death in 2011. In short, this beautifully tended box is an intriguing monument to this unforgettable and influential artist.
