For British icon Peter Gabriel, 2012 was all about So's 25th birthday. With this album the former Genesis frontman broke through as a solo artist. In addition to a remastered re-release of the album, Gabriel also gave a number of gigs that year with members of the original So-band such as bassist Tony Levin, guitarist David Rhodes and drummer Manu Katché. Gabriel has already treated his audience
… to many live DVDs that rarely lack favorites like Shock The Monkey and Solsbury Hill. Yet he manages to impress again on Back To Front. The group opens informally with, among other things, the aforementioned songs and with the hall lights still on, as if they are rehearsing in a rehearsal room. During Family Snapshot they are suddenly in theatrical light, like a real rock band and there is no stopping it. So is only deployed halfway through the show, opening with the swirling Red Rain. The bulky Gabriel may no longer be able to move as freely as before, but his voice is more powerful than ever. A fantastic band does the rest on this impressive live recording. (MR)more
