“Heroes” was the second album David Bowie recorded while living in West Berlin. The album bears striking similarities to its predecessor Low, which was released a few months earlier in 1977. Bowie again worked closely with producer Brian Eno. And just like Low, this album was also divided into an A-side with completed songs and an instrumental B-side. The influence of German electronic music
… ('krautrock') was great on “Heroes”, especially on the second part. Thin synthesizers gave the album a futuristic sound that years later still feels revolutionary. The title track grew out of one of Bowie's most famous songs. He later also recorded a German-language version of the song about two lovers kissing in the shadow of the Berlin Wall. Bowie's Berlin albums cast their shadows in pop music. The influence on later genres such as synthipop, new wave and britpop was enormous. (PdK)more
