Anyone who still doubted the influence of John Fogerty on the hit sound of Creedence Clearwater Revival was immediately convinced after listening to Centerfield (1985), Fogerty's first solo album in nine years. Almost all by himself Fogerty made a record that reminded in everything of the swamp rock of his old band, and which often even had the same high quality. And as if nothing had happened, he
… scored another huge hit with The Old Man Down The Road. Fogerty's old record boss Saul Zaentz was 'not amused' with the sneer he got from Fogerty in the songs Vanz Kant Danz and Mr. Greed. Later this Zaentz would sue for the resemblance of The Old Man Down The Road to the CCR hit Run Through The Jungle, to which he owned the rights. It was this madness that made Fogerty decide to retire from the music business for a long time. (MS)more
