For someone with English, Cherokee, Mexican and Scottish / Irish ancestors, history and 'your roots' have to play an important role in your life. No wonder Connie Dover, born in Arkansas and raised in Missouri, began to study the rich Celtic music tradition in depth. However, she did not neglect the American folk tradition. In addition to being a musicologist, Dover is a very gifted singer and
… composer. Her musical career began in the 1970s in the bluegrass genre, but she soon became intrigued by Celtic music and joined the American-Irish band Scartaglen in the 1980s. From her debut album Somebody (1991) Dover went solo. Her solo albums were produced by Silly Wizard alumnus Phil Cunningham, who ensured that she was accompanied by the best traditional musicians from Scotland, Ireland and America. The albums are all gems, which have received great acclaim worldwide (even as far as Asia!). Dover's pure crystal clear, serene voice is therefore exceptionally enchanting. Her diction of texts in English, Gaelic, French and Latin is excellent and her phrasing is full of nuances. Dover sings with great care and knowledge of the emotional content of the text, so that she knows how to touch the heart of every listener. In addition to traditionals from Great Britain and America, she also sings some of her own compositions and sometimes composes the music based on ancient text. What is special is that these new creations do not differ in style from the old ones and therefore have an equally authentic appearance. In short, Connie Dover is a must for anyone who loves soothing folk. (SvdP)more
