The successful debut album and the theater performance entitled Sielesâlt bombarded the Frisian singer and performer Nynke Laverman in one fell swoop to the 'Frisian fado phenomenon'. A big compliment, but Laverman didn't want to get stuck on fado alone. While the Frisian poet Slauerhoff and fado had been central in Sielesâlt, Laverman was looking for a completely different theme for her second
… theater performance. She traveled to Mexico together with the Frisian poet Albertina Soepboer. Mexican culture provided a lot of inspiration for the De Maisfrou program. Death and life, misery and vitality, despair and hope, blooming and dying love and longing for love and wisdom. Soepboer wrote beautiful poems about this, which were set to music by Laverman & combo members, Tiago Machado, Theo Nijland, Wende Snijders, Fernando Lameirinhas and others. The album De Maisfrou still exudes plenty of fado: moving melancholy and longing, beautifully performed by Laverman. Her warm-blooded voice is attractively accompanied by varied acoustic line-ups. But in addition to fado, samba, tango and flamenco can now also be heard. De Maisfrou radiates melancholy, sensuality, passion and zest for life! (SvdP)more
