The Madrileen Luís Delgado is one of the most versatile musicians in Europe. He is a multi-instrumentalist, composer and producer and feels at home in diverse music worlds; from Andalusian rock through oriental and ethnic fusion to traditional and medieval music. In addition to his participation as a musician in numerous ensembles, Delgado has made more than ten solo albums. He has also composed
… music for various television series and documentaries, for plays and ballets. Concert tours in more than twenty countries (including the US) and the receipt of all kinds of prizes complete the picture of this centipede. Delgado is known above all as an expert in the field of authentic music in Al-Andalus; the music that was played during the period when the Arabs stayed in Spain. His specialism in Moorish culture is reflected in his music. Delgado loves to mix the sound of original Arabic instruments with ambient sounds created on contemporary digital instruments. This sound can also be heard on the album El Hechizo De Babilonia. This CD is dedicated to poets who lived in Andalusia (southern Spain) in the 11th-13th century. It is striking how contemporary the age-old texts seem: the women dare to express their desires explicitly and unabashedly. The poems are provided with music by Delgado and are performed by excellent musicians: the singers Mariem Hassan, María del Mar Bonet and Herminia Hugenel, the singer El Arabí Serghini Mohamed, percussionist Hossam Ramzy, Jaime Muñoz (kaval, clarinet, ney), Javier Bergia (dumbek) and Delgado himself (on numerous Arabic instruments plus computer programming). The oriental ambient music seduces the listener to daydream. (SvdP) _more
