Ana Moura is the latest discovery of guitarist and composer Jorge Fernando, who previously turned Mariza into a fado star. Moura herself had long doubts about her qualities as a fado singer. She only started listening to the legendary Amália Rodriguez after hearing Dulce Pontes' soulful fado recordings. Anyone who has heard Moura's first album Guarda-me A Vida Na Mão may understand something of
… her insecurity. The 23-year-old singer sounds natural and casual, but also young. However, she has a beautiful voice: clear, dark and slightly hoarse. Melancholic and sensual at the same time, ideal for fado. And she's beautiful too. As a singer she can only grow. Songs like the beautiful Jorge Fernando song Sou Do Fado, Sou Fadista and the cheerful Vou Dar De Beber A Dor promise a lot. We can expect a lot from Moura in the coming years. (CP)more
