Just like Astor Piazzolla for the Argentine tango, the Spanish guitarist Paco de Lucía has meant a lot to flamenco. He has emancipated flamenco and put it on the program list of major stages all over the world. The child prodigy from Algeciras developed his own 'nuevo flamenco' style from the seventies. Waiting five long years after Luzia (1998), De Lucía's studio album Cositas Buenas was released.
De Lucía returns from the more extroverted nuevo flamenco concept to a more original flamenco: penetrating vocals, breathtaking virtuoso guitar parts, lots of palmas (rhythmic clapping of hands) and sparse percussion. De Lucía's eight new compositions are highly refined, imaginative and refreshingly original. Guitarist Tomatito and singers La Tana, among others, worked on the album. Montse Cortés and El Potito. The professionalism of the performers is great and the recording quality excellent. Cositas Buenas is an album of world class relaxed, happy flamenco! (SvdP)more
