José Fernández Torres alias Tomatito is a great virtuoso on the flamenco guitar. Tomatito is so loved that numerous musicians, singers and dancers are eager to collaborate with him. At an early age he made a name for himself as an accompanist to the great flamenco singer Camaron de la Isla. After his death in 1992 Tomatito developed into a soloist with his own style, in which he did not hesitate
… to enrich the authentic flamenco with nuances from latin jazz, rock, blues or bossa nova. After a few albums in which jazz influences were given plenty of space, Tomatito again meets fans of pure flamenco with the album Aguadulce. Apart from the 'funky' rumba Pa ' Salinas (with guest appearances from harmonica player Antonio Serrano and guitarist Luis Salinas), Tomatito plays authentic soléas, bulerías and tangos with the crème de la crème of flamenco artists. Instrumental solo songs alternate with flamenco songs in beautiful renditions by Tomatito's daughter Mari Angeles and singers El Potito, Guadiana and Diego El Cigala. It is a pity that the CD only lasts 33 minutes, because you would want to enjoy Tomatito's sublime music endlessly. (SvdP)more
