Eric Vaarzon Morel comes from a well-known family of painters. Yet he does not paint with paint but with music: he conjures up the most wonderful timbres and atmospheres from his guitar. Because his parents were fascinated by flamenco at an early age, Vaarzon Morel also developed a fascination for this genre at a young age. He learned the tricks of the trade by staying with gypsies in Seville. He
… played in various international flamenco groups, accompanied numerous soloists and composed music for Abdelkader Benali's musical theater production De Ongelukk and for feature films such as Leef! and The Schnitzelparadijs. Vaarzon Morel is widely appreciated for the way he innovates the genre by mixing it with classical, jazz, pop and world music. On the album Marea he enters into musical dialogues with Eric Vloeimans (trumpet), Harry Sacksioni (guitar), Jesse van Ruller (electric guitar), Oene van Geel (violin), the Zapp String Quartet and with Sinna Casita, a Tilburg hip-hop and soul singer of Moroccan descent.
