In the female-dominated genre of fado, António Zambujo is a refreshing appearance. With his light voice and delicate diction, he does not hesitate to add influences from elegant bossa nova and cool jazz to the fado. On this album Rua Da Emenda he keeps the line-up small and intimate. A (Portuguese) guitar is usually sufficient, sometimes supplemented by a bass guitar, percussion and some wind
… instruments. He gives plenty of space to the beautiful songs, written by João Monge and Maria do Rosário Pedreira, among others, with music by Miguel Araujo, Ricardo Cruz, Luis & Pedro da Silva Martins. The CD booklet contains French and English translations of the fifteen songs. Zambujo's singing does not evoke heavy melancholy, but rather lyrical and optimistic lightheartedness. Pure enjoyment!
