In Mali, Kassé Mady Diabaté is honored as one of the country's greatest singers. The fact that he has remained relatively unknown in the west is due to the modest and honest character of this sympathetic singer. As a descendant of the age-old caste of griots, guardians of the tradition, he sees it as his life's task to help others gain wisdom through his narrative songs. Kassé Mady also does this
… in collaboration with others, he sang together with Taj Mahal, Toumani Diabaté and Bassekou Kouyate, among others. Perhaps Kasse Mady's fourth solo album will also give him the recognition he deserves in the west. Manden Djeli Khan means 'The Voice of the Mandinka griot'. On this album Kassé Mady sings his own mid-tempo compositions in the Malian traditional music style, accompanied by the cream of the crop: Moriba Koita (n'goni), Lassana Diabaté (balafon), Toumani Diabaté (kora) and members of the Symmetric Orchestra and Salif Keita's band.
