In the 1970s, Linda Ronstadt was the (handsome) female face of westcoast country rock, who could count on the collaboration of John David Souther, Neil Young and members of The Eagles on classic albums in the genre like Heart Like A Wheel (1974) and Prisoner In Disguise (1975). Subsequently, it is hardly possible to make any connections to the oeuvre of this singer, who has now passed sixty, with
… albums full of standards and Broadway repertoire, traditional country, Christmas and children's records, and so on. Together with singer Anne Savoy (Savoy-Doucet Cajun Band) she is now adding an album full of cajun and early country music. Music like this could be heard in the moonlight on the porches of southern America at the beginning of the last century. You can almost see the Zozo sisters sitting like two 'southern belles' in long dresses, while they sing the mischievous Parlez-Moi d'Amour in two parts. Adieu False Heart sounds pleasantly traditional but also a bit solemn and stiff, as if there was little partying on the porches at the time. (MR)more
