The acoustic band Asere consists of seven Cuban young men who honor the son tradition of their country while giving it a refreshingly new look. After an outing with Panamanian jazz drummer Billy Cobham, Asere released her fourth studio album Junio Groove. In addition to some covers by Ruben Bladés and Henry Fiol, Asere plays new songs in which jazz influences are particularly noticeable. And
… on the instrumental track Harissa you hear obvious flamenco and Arabic elements. Sonamos Flamenco is a festive mixture of flamenco and 'latin flavor'. The album is dedicated to the neighbors of a neighborhood in Havana, where the band members grew up. This homage is also musically expressed in the atmospheric song Yo Naci En Un Solar. The relaxed groovy music full of rich rhythms and fresh musical inventions makes Junio Groove a hip album with sunny Caribbean music. (SvdP)more
