After the collapse of the Soviet Union, the country Tuva was created, located between Mongolia and Siberia. A country where people still live close to nature. A country famous for its unworldly-sounding overtone vocals, produced by the technique of throat singing. The Huun-Huur-Tu quartet is one of the most famous representatives of Tuva music, a group that performs traditional music with a view to
… the future, open to innovation. They have collaborated on performances by Frank Zappa, The Chieftains, The Kronos Quartet and the Bulgarian women's choir Angelite. The line-up has changed somewhat over time, but the formula remains the same: overtone and throat singing in the styles xöömei, kargyraa, borbangnadyr and sygyt with accompaniment on traditional plucked, string and percussion instruments. The album Best / live is Huun-Huur-Tu's first live album, recorded in Russia in April 2001. Fascinating music that conjures up an image of vast plains with shepherds and herds. (SvdP)more
