The musicians of the Turkish Kolektif Istanbul got to know each other by playing concerts at village festivals, weddings and other special occasions. Although this repertoire is mostly very traditional, each of the musicians has a broad musical interest. The collective has a line-up in which accordion and brass players occupy the most important places, but where the singing voice of trumpeter Asli
… Dogan is also decisive. Kismet is the fifth album by the collective, which has already toured extensively in Europe several times. Although the band sound is initially quite traditional, there are subtle and uncommon combinations to be heard. The repertoire, which is based on music from Turkey and the Balkans, is mixed with jazzy harmonies and sometimes even goes in the direction of prog rock. At times it is somewhat reminiscent of the band Snarky Puppy. Especially the uptempo songs sound exhilarating and fresh. Kismet invites the listener to go and see Kolektif Istanbul in the flesh as soon as possible. An ideal business card. (JV)more
