Cluster was a German synthesizer group, which was in the 70's a forerunner of the ambient genre.
The group was founded in 1970 under the name Kluster by Dieter Moebius, Hans-Joachim Roedelius and Conrad Schnitzler, who had worked previously around electronic music and experimental techniques. The trio released three albums, Klopfzeichen, Zwei-Osterei and Eruption. When Schnitzler left the group in… 1971, Roedelius and Moebius renamed the group to cluster and worked extensively with producer and sound engineer Conny Plank, until his death in 1987.
The group worked in its history, sometimes together with other musicians. Together with the founder of Neu !, Michael Rother, several albums were recorded under the name Harmonia. The album Tracks and Traces, recorded in 1976 and released in 1997 also played with Brian Eno. Eno also worked occasionally with Cluster itself together, like the albums Cluster & Eno (1977) and After The Heat (1978, released under the name Eno Moebius Roedelius)more
