"The incredibly lovely sound of Stan Getz." Some self-righteous to something of yourself to say, but Stan Getz was right. Virtually no other saxophonist could make such a lyrical sound of his tenor. With that sound and smooth lines Getz was much heard on bossa nova CDs and even some smooth fusion albums. … and hard bop. Getz (1927) made late forties impression fronting the Four Brothers, the famous saxophone section of the orchestra of Woody Herman. Then he began to lead small groups including Jimmy Raney and Horace Silver. His greatest success commercially, he scored in a Brazilian tinged collaboration with guitarist Charlie Byrd and bossa nova hits Desafinado and The Girl From Ipanema.more
