John Smith Hurt (March 8, 1893 and May 5, 1895.}} – November 2, 1966), known as Mississippi John Hurt, was an American country blues singer, songwriter, and guitarist.
Hurt was raised in Avalon, Mississippi and taught himself to play the guitar around the age of nine.
