Frequently Asked Questions

Using the website

How do I search for music?

At the top of the Muziekweb page you will find the search field. There you can search for almost anything related to a CD or DVD: artist, band, song title, composer, work, performer and album title.

When you start typing you will immediately see suggestions. If you type the name of a band, you will see a link to the band’s page, followed by their most popular albums and songs. You can also search for a combination of composers and players. Directly below the search field you can select popular or classic search results. If necessary, click on 'show all results' at the bottom right for a more extensive page.

For classical composers and performers, we also take into account different possible spellings of names. 'Shosta' leads directly to Shostakovich and 'Yuri' gives Youri Egorov, among others. For works, you can also search by nicknames, such as Vivaldi's 'Four Seasons’.

Artist recommendations will give you suggestions for artists based on a maximum of 5 artists you enter into the tool. With the slider you can indicate whether you would like a 'popular' or a more 'adventurous' advice.

Album advice suggests albums to you based on 3 albums you entered into the tool. When you are on an album page, you can click 'use in music advice' to add that album to the advice tool.

This request will count toward the limit on the number of requests.

Why can it take a long time for a request to become available on Music Web?

Muziekweb.nl lends objects to libraries in the Netherlands. For sending these objects back and forth, we need to calculate a generous amount of time. In addition, a library borrower must be given the opportunity to pick up the object at the library, listen to it and return it. A standard loan period is set at six weeks. Fortunately, in most cases, sending objects back and forth takes less time than the period for which it is calculated.

If there are many reservations for a title, the period can quickly increase. Muziekweb.nl keeps a close eye on the number of reservations and orders additional objects if necessary.

What is the maximum number of requests?

There is a fixed amount of titles you can borrow at once. This amount differs per public library. If you have any questions about the limit, ask your library.

If you have reached the maximum number of requests, you will not be able to request more titles at muziekweb.nl. All objects in the lending process, from request to return to muziekweb.nl, count for the total amount.

I am missing a title in your collection. Can I request an addition?

If you’re missing a title in our collection, you can contact us by email and propose a title to be added. Our buyers will assess your request and will answer your email.

If we approve your request, we are unfortunately not able to keep you updated on the process of acquisition. Please keep an eye yourself on if the title is added already, if you want to borrow it through your library.

How does the SMS service work?

When you request a title for lending, you may choose to receive updates about your request via SMS. Fill in your phone number in your account. After we have received your request, you will receive an email and an SMS stating that your item is being shipped to your library.

How do I report an item that is broken or doesn't work?

Have you received a CD or DVD that doesn’t function properly or is broken? When you hand in your borrowed item at the library, please add a note in the box that notes what is wrong with the object. Please also inform the librarian that the object doesn’t function. Our customer service will then contact your library and will not charge you for the loan.

How do I see items that I borrowed previously?

Click your account name on the top right of the screen. In the window that opens, click on 'previously borrowed'. You're direct to a page on which you can see every title you have requested previously.
