New Wave band The Cure was the mid seventies founded by the eccentric singer, songwriter and focal Robert Smith, who drew on established knew from his years teased up and deliberately messy applied red lipstick. The purpose of the band was, as Smith said in an interview, "to make music that we ourselves would like to hear on the radio, but no one does." The mission succeeded. After the debut single
… Killing An Arab scored the Cure with sweet Boys Do not Cry (1979) and the melancholy A Forest (1980) in the Netherlands as soon the first hits. Along with Siouxie & The Banshees was placed on the gothic rock base by them where they were both musical and visual aspects (the bats look) precursors. It was not long before The Cure managed to grow at an underground cult band to a rock band for a wide audience. The depressing sounds from the early years were interspersed with (quasi-) gay nothings as The Caterpillar, The Lovecats and Close To Me. Like all great bands The Cure made there at all times that she was not predictable. A difficult album like Pornography (1982) was thus followed by more accessible work as the head on the door (1985) and Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me (1987). With four albums in fifteen years - Disintegration (1989), Wish (1992), Wild Mood Swings (1996) and Blood Flowers (2000) - The productivity of the band took off rapidly thereafter. The sheet metal could continue dividing fans and critics but thanks to an indestructible live reputation knew The Cure - despite the necessary line-up changes and ensuing lawsuits - as mega act the twenty-first century without too much damage inside bumping.
