Zucchero was appointed commendatore in 2006 by then president Carlo Azeglio Ciampi for his international promotion of Italian music. His impressive oeuvre is praised worldwide and in the Caribbean people are also lyrical about the work of the Italian. Conversely, Zucchero has always been particularly fascinated by the region and Cuba in particular. His thirteenth studio album is therefore a subtly
… wrapped declaration of love to the island. La Sesión Cubana has thirteen songs. Six of them are well-known Zucchero hits with a tropical guise. The most successful of these are Un Kilo and Cuba Libre. Among the new songs, Guantanamera stands out, especially because it is sung in Italian. In addition to Spanish and Italian, 'Suikertje' also appears to master Portuguese very well, as evidenced by the duet Ave Maria No Morro with the Brazilian Djavan. When listening to La Sesión Cubana, you imagine yourself at a Caribbean party on a sweltering summer evening, hosted by one of the greatest musical Italians in history. (BvdV)more
