David Coverdale (born 22 September 1951) is an English singer and songwriter best known as the founder and lead singer of hard rock band Whitesnake. He was also the lead singer of Deep Purple from 1973 to 1976, after which he released two solo studio albums White Snake and Northwinds before forming Whitesnake in 1978.
