Singer, guitarist and songwriter Teofilo Chantre was born in 1964 on the island of São Nicolau. Thirteen years later, his family emigrated to France. There he learned to play guitar and compose herself. From the age of seventeen, he immersed himself in his African-Portuguese roots and started to perform at local festivals. In the following years Chantre brought some own critically acclaimed albums: Terra & Cretcheu (1996), Di Alma (1998) Roda Tempo (2001) and Azulando (2004). Chantre renews the traditional genres are bittersweet morna and its lively and satirical coladeira's sound besides nostalgic waltzes and mazurkas.
