Swan Lake is a fairy tale about Prince Siegfried who falls in love with the Swan Queen Odette. Odette is actually a princess, but she was transformed into a swan by the evil wizard Von Rothbart and he does not let her escape just like that ... Tchaikovsky composed his ballet for the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow, but it became best known for the version written in 1895 for was first performed in St.
Petersburg. It is this latest version with the choreography by Petipa and Ivanov that served as the basis for this production of the Royal Ballet. As can be expected from the Royal Ballet, the costumes and sets are fairytale-like and the dance quality is high, which becomes clear from the first trio. The famous second act shows the famous picture: dozens of beautiful ballerinas in white tutus on pointers against a black background. Everything breathes magic. And nice to know: Marianele Nuñez (Odette / Odile) and Thiago Soares (Prince Siegfried) are also a real couple. (CP)more
