In terms of appearance, he has something of Jamie Cullum (also Decca / Universal). Surely this is not the reason why Decca places Nico Muhly so emphatically in the shop window. Well, that about appearance. Furthermore, Nico Muhly seems to have it all. He effortlessly navigates between diverse musical styles, allowing him to flourish for the pop lover, the churchgoer and the classical audience. And
… Decca does take care of the worldwide distribution of its CDs. Most importantly though, all that dazzling success doesn't stop Muhly from composing intelligent and entertaining music. The ballet I Drink The Air Before Me can now also be added to his discography. The ballet was composed for Stephen Petronio on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of his ballet company. We have to imagine the instruments of the ensemble as the idiosyncratic inhabitants of a village by the sea.
