CD premieres of those 20th century works for violin and orchestra by Belgian composers. The oldest work is the Romantic lullaby of the relatively unknown Prosper Van Eechaute. In its original version for violin and piano it is the composer's most frequently performed work. He wrote it in 1933. We hear it here in an orchestration by Duez, probably from 1945. A short sensitive work. De Vocht's Concert
… has a lot more pretensions. It is a (neo-) romantic and wide-ranging concert, written in 1943-44. In 1945 it was performed for the first time in Antwerp. The most modern work on this CD is the Concert van Coryn. The work was written in 1987. Despite the modern idiom, it is a very accessible and exciting concert. The performers are Henri Raudales (violin) and the New Flemish Symphony Orchestra conducted by Patrick Peire. The flip book also contains explanations in Dutch. (WZ)more
