Hans Kox is one of the few Dutch composers who has ventured into the difficult genre of the violin concerto. The "First Violin Concerto" was written in 1963 by order of the City of Amsterdam and dedicated to violinist Theo Olof. It was not until fifteen years later that the "Second Violin Concerto" was created. This violin concerto, which is one of Hans Kox's best-known works, was dedicated to the
… then Russian concertmaster of the Rotterdam Philharmonic, Wiktor Liberman (later concertmaster of the Concertgebouworkest). The "Third Violin Concerto" was premiered in 1995 by violinist Silvia Marcovici and the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra conducted by Philippe Entremont. Donemus released a CD of the latter with Kox's "Violinconcerten nos. 1-3". (HJ) _more
