Even Debussy's vague 'impressionist' piano music allows for divergent interpretations. Gieseking's historic EMI recording became a classic: subtle and with endless color shades. Henkeman's Philips LPs were much brighter (sharp, little pedal, bright accents), as if he had exchanged the Mediterranean colors for those of the North Sea.
