On this CD pianist Stephen Hough plays an anthology from the piano oeuvre of the Spanish composer Federico Mompou (1893-1987). 'Piano oeuvre' in this case is actually a pleonasm, because Mompou wrote almost exclusively for piano. They are all miniatures, rarely taking longer than five minutes, sometimes bundled. Mompou himself said that Satie in particular was a source of inspiration for him, but
… the dry, sarcastic humor of the Frenchman is completely lacking in his music.
