This CD is dedicated to Willem Wander's compositions for recorder (solo and ensemble). It was mainly the recorder players who inspired Van Nieuwkerk. The friendship with Saskia Coolen alone led to several beautiful compositions. 'The nice thing about Willem is that he has always consistently drawn his own trail, right through the prevailing fashions,' says Saskia Coolen: 'For example, Willem wrote
… lyrical music in the eighties and allowed himself to be influenced by African rhythms, while the beep -grink music reigned supreme. ' World-famous recorder companies collaborated on this CD, including La Fontegara Amsterdam and the Amsterdam Loeki Stardust Quartet. A good example of Van Nieuwkerk's imagination is Bye, bye, blues (C_U, Jesus). The soft sounds of the recorder fit very nicely with this collage of blues, gospel and folk. (HJ)more
