Telemann's Kleine Kammermusik consists of six Partitas. He kept it simple: each partita starts with a slow particle, followed by six more parts, all of which are called 'aria'. It is always about two-part music: a melody with an accompanying (figured) bass. The melody can be played by various instruments, such as the oboe, the violin or the traverso. … amateurs had to be able to handle it. Advanced musicians were of course allowed to add all kinds of decorations to their heart's content if they wanted to. So it is something for everyone, which does not affect the quality of the music at all. Andrea Coen even played them integrally on the harpsichord, because these charming pieces are so agile.
