There are many, many CDs with collections of organ chorales by Johann Sebastian Bach. Still, it is worthwhile, especially for those who want to find their way through the enormous amount of chorales and works that Bach wrote for his favorite instrument. On this double CD, the church year, from Advent to Pentecost, is roughly followed to make a selection of chorales. Other, not directly liturgical,
… organ works by Bach have been added for variety and enrichment, such as one of Bach's masterpieces, the gigantic prelude and fugue in E-flat major. Elisabeth Roloff plays the works very well - not very exciting but beautiful and thoughtful. Combined with the good recording, this CD is an excellent entrance into Bach's organ world, with a balanced selection and balanced organ playing. (TC)more
