With an oeuvre to his name that includes all genres known in his time, Louis Spohr (1784-1859) can without reservation be called a versatile composer. One of the genres that emerged during his career was the song for solo voice with piano. Spohr composed a total of about 90 songs, and this entire corpus is a rich and varied contribution to the genre. The PrimaVera label has released two CDs containing
… Spohr's first seven collections - each with six songs per series - composed and released in the period 1810-1838. The booklets give the complete lyrics, but unfortunately it stops at that, so that the performers, except for a certain Dianne van den Eijnden, presumably the singer, whose name is printed on the cover, remain anonymous. Strange and unfortunate, because despite the sometimes hollow recording sound,more
